Last night, David went on a date with V.C., and they decided to dine at a new restaurant in the Castro called Malacca. It's near the bar Moby Dick where the long-closed, artery-clogging Hot 'n Hunky used to be.
Five hundred years ago, Malacca was a major spice-route port city in what is now modern Malaysia. Due to trade influences, Malaccan food was a blend of Malay, Indian, Eurasian, and Chinese cuisine. The restaurant combines this cuisine with more European cooking techniques and Thai and Vietnamese influences to create a truly fusion dining experience.
The food was great!
- They started with two shared appetizers: shrimp and crab dumplings, and coconut calamari.
- For dinner, V.C. had paiea and David had the ahi.
- For dessert they shared vanilla gelato and 5-spice mousse.
David thinks they had a full bar, mostly because their drink and dessert menu seemed substantial, but they didn't pay too much attention to that so perhaps it was just an extensive beer and wine menu.
All in all, worth recommending!
